This is our third trip to the region struck by the Sichuan Earthquake. Our first trip was made when our friends at the China Windmill Foundation (CWF) asked if there was anything we could do to help victims of the earthquake as clean water was in very short supply. It was a difficult trip as any first hand encounter with such devastation can only leave you with a real sense of appreciation for any day is not subject to such an affliction. We received a lot of help from the local authorities to see where the problems were and what we could do to help. Finally, it was decided that the area of most need was the Maoxian Emergency Housing Camp. This new facility provides housing for 2000 families with a total population of about 8000 people. When we visited the camp, there was no water supply other than the nearby river, which was badly polluted due to the runoff from the debris left by the earthquake. We will discuss the situation more as we progress to our destination in Maoxian - a long journey on a badly damaged and dangerous highway.
